Hitchhiking

A new month has started and you know what that means: a new challenge! But first we’ll take a look at the last challenges: hitchhiking from Amsterdam to Barcelona and trying to reach 15k followers on Instagram.

Hitchhiking from Amsterdam to Barcelona

My first challenge was hitchhiking through the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Spain. Here I’ll give a short resume of this journey. Note: together with a friend of mine I entered a competition where I had to battle against 299 other, international teams. The price was a ticket around the world and only the fastest team could win this. We started in Amsterdam and we ended the race in Barcelona. Did I complete the race? I’ll tell you that right now.

Well, I did arrive in Barcelona before the deadline so that’s a good thing. But it was so difficult, with some horrible but also some great moments. It was physically and mentally hard, but I’m so glad I did this challenge. We had six days to complete the race. In these days I’ve met some great people and we joined a part every day. It also surprised me that many people are so nice and they all want to help you. That was really special to me. It took me 30 rides to arrive in Barcelona, but I have to admit that I cheated a little bit: I took one bus, two trains and two taxi’s on two different days. The first time I cheated was necessary, or I had to sleep in my tent next to the highway. So I rather cheat than have a horrible night. The second time I just didn’t care anymore. I was tired and it was too hot, so I gave up. But I did hitchhike 90% of the whole route so I think I did a good job.

15k followers on Instagram

More followers on Instagram

Because the hitchhike adventure was for one week only, I wanted to do another challenge: trying to reach the 15k followers on Instagram. At the beginning of the month my amount of followers was 13.8, so I only had to get 1.2k followers. Not too much! But I was traveling three times this month so I wasn’t sure if I would made it. But I did! I actually reached 15.5k at the end of the month. You can read my strategy in the previous article when I wanted to reach the 10k followers on Instagram!

New challenge: no mobile phone in the bedroom

My new challenge? No digital devices in the bedroom. Autsj, that’s gonna be hard. Every evening before I’m going to sleep I scroll down my Facebook feed, I open my Instagram one more time and I check my e-mail, just to make sure. And right after I wake up I do the same. I’m not a great sleeper so I want to know if this will help me to have better nights. I’ll update you at the end of the month. Stay tuned!

Do you know a cool challenge? Just let me know in a comment below, because I could definitely use some inspiration!

Woah, you’re braver than I am. I don’t think I’d ever hitch hike, especially not that far. Good on you for finishing the challenge. I’m sure there were times when you wanted to give up and didn’t care anymore. It sounds like you had an awesome experience, especially with the parties!

Hey I think hitchhiking 90% is great!! I don’t think I’d even take on the challenge, so kudos to you for completing it! I think your first “cheat” though was not only necessary, but really smart.

Aah thanks so much Miranda, I agree! It’s okay to do 90% and yesss everything is better than sleeping in a tent next to the highway haha

Good for you on challenging yourself! I wouldn’t worry about the “cheating” because you accomplished a lot more then most people. What a wonderful experience that you will remember forever!

You are a brave soul hitchhiking from Amsterdam to Barcelona in less than a week! 30 rides! That’s putting a lot of faith in the helpfulness of strangers. I’m so glad you had what sounds like a mostly positive experience. What an adventure! As for your next challenge, good luck! I’m pretty good about leaving my computer in the living room when I go to bed, but it would feel so strange to not have my phone next to me. It probably will do wonders for your sleep though. Can’t wait to read next month’s post to see how you handle the no phone in the bedroom challenge!

Ah thanks so much! I’m also glad that everywhing went fine during the hitchhike. And so far it’s okay to leave my phone in the living room and to go to sleep. I have less problems with getting out of bed in the morning now so it helps haha 🙂
