Last year I’ve visited Corfu, the greenest island of Greece. With thousands of flowers and stunning views everywhere. It’s the first Greek island I’ve ever visited and I’m very excited about it. It’s awesome for nature lovers AND for culture lovers. In this article I wanna show you my favorite spots that you really can’t miss during your stay!
Sandy beaches in the north of Corfu
I’m not a huge fan of beaches. Don’t get me wrong: I love beaches, but I don’t like laying on the beach for hours. On Corfu you’ll find a lot of pebble beaches, but if you go to the north of the island you’ll also find some sandy ones. I really liked the idyllic town Sidari, with many lounge bars where you can relax for hours. Or just lay down and relax in the sea.
Photogenic Paleokastritsa
For some great views head over to Paleokastritsa in the northwest of Corfu. Clear waters and beautiful bays: it’s stunning. Go for a boat ride, which costs you around 15 dollars, and sail through caves. Enjoy the weather, get some food and don’t forget to take some photographs. Oh… and visit the monastery right on the top of a mountain. It’s gorgeous!
Hire a scooter and drive around
No matter where you go, you can always hire a scooter. And you really need a scooter to explore Corfu. There is a bus going, but that’s not the best way to move around the island. Is a scooter not cool enough? No problem, you can also hire a buggy, quad or motorcycle. I chose a motorcycle and that one costed around 15 dollars per day, so it’s definitely not expensive. Just drive around and go wherever you want to go, because getting lost is not a problem at all. You can drive from the north to the south in just two hours, so you’re never far away from the place you’re staying at.
Must do: Corfu town
If you want to enjoy some culture, you should go to Corfu town, also called Kerkyra. Go shopping, drink a glass of wine and just hang out. And don’t forget to climb the fort. On top you have some great views of Corfu, pretty amazing! Another must do is strolling down the cute, white streets with many little shops. I loved it!
A full day boat ride to Paxos and Antipaxos
The best thing I did during my trip through Corfu was a full day excursion to the islands Paxos and Antipaxos. You need to get on a boat in the early morning to sail all day. The water is crystal clear and extremely blue. But that’s not the best part about this trip. You’ll go ashore at Antipaxos, a super cute little island with cute restaurants and cute shops and cute little streets and flowers and good food.
Best viewpoint of Corfu
My favorite viewpoint was at café-restaurant Bella Vista in Benitses in the east of the island. The food and drinks are more expensive, but that’s totally worth it. Order a glass of fresh orange juice and enjoy the view over the mountains and the blue sea. See airplanes take off and just relax for a bit.
Have lunch at Avra on the Beach
Are you hungry? Go for lunch at Avra on the Beach! Or have breakfast. The food is awesome but the setting is even better: little, colorful chairs, a pergola of grapes and right in front of the sea. If you are done eating, you can just transport yourself to the (pebble) beach two metres from the restaurant. Find a good spot right under a parasol and listen to some lounge music.
Stay in Benitses
Benitses is a good place to stay: it’s close to Corfu City, it has some good restaurants, it’s a vibrant town and you won’t come across that many drunk people. But if you like to party all night long and get drunk, go to Kavos in the south of Corfu where all the party animals are heading to.

It is a lovely place ! Funnily enough I became familiar with Corfu many years before actually going there, we covered the book ‘My family and Other Animals’ by Gerald Durrell at school – it’s an account of his family’s move to Corfu quite some time ago now. Worth a read ! Even better read it while there !! Happy travels !
Haha what a cool story, thanks for that! Same to you 🙂
A beatiful Location Çörfu!
